It's been 20 years since the KHCP launched its very first project right here at the Shedra. In 2005, we purchased and installed the first generator together with H.H. Karmapa and his monks. The week-long Mahakala-Puja with the Karmapa took place in the following days. Right at the beginning, there was another total power outage, and so the generator was used for the first time. Since then, it has been called the "Mahakala-Generator". Now, after 20 years, it has given up the ghost, and the KHCP donated a new, modern 10 kW generator, which was put into operation during the Karmapa's visit in May. We are delighted about 20 years of joint cooperation between the KHCP and the Shedra. Best wishes from Pia and Peter.
LETTER from Kalimpong
"Dear Peter and Pia,
First of all, I sincerely apologize for the delay in replying to your message. After the completion of our 3rd Grand Graduation Celebration, there were many responsibilities to take care of—calculations, totals, and other follow-up tasks. Right after that, we observed Buddha Purnima (Buddha Jayanti), which also required a great deal of preparation and engagement.
Because of all these commitments, I was unable to send the photo of the generator (Genset) that you had kindly requested.
That said, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your timely and thoughtful decision to support us by donating towards the purchase of this Genset. It has already proven to be extremely useful—not only during the graduation program but also for daily use at the Karmapa House whenever we experience power outages due to disturbances in the main electricity line.
As the monsoon season has now begun, power cuts have become more frequent, often happening twice a day. During these times, the Genset is a great help for conducting pujas and also for the students’ self-study sessions. We are soon having our half-yearly exams, and this one-week study period before the exams will benefit greatly from the power support provided by your generous gift.
On behalf of the entire Diwakar family, I would like to offer our deepest gratitude to both of you. Your support reflects not only your generosity but also your deep understanding and commitment to the path of Buddha Dharma. Your compassionate actions are truly inspiring, and we pray that your journey in the Dharma continues to blossom beautifully as you help others along the way.
May the blessings of the Three Jewels always be with you both.
Please find attached some photos of the Genset as you requested. Also, I have taken note of the yearly letter regarding the new contribution for the payments.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
With heartfelt thanks,
Karma Tsundu"
