Annual Report 2013
March 31, 2014
Dear KHCP friends,
KHCP has existed for over eight years now and has carried out tens of thousands of treatments at numerous medical camps in the Himalayas and in Bodhgaya. We hope that together we have been able to be of benefit.
Health is very precious. Without health it is not possible to enjoy life nor is it possible to engage in Buddhist practice.
As we have announced last year, parts of our work have now been taken over by Dhulikhel Hospital, the University Hospital of Nepal. We have hired a constant KHCP physician and an assistant. The two of them, Dr. med. Sonam Rinchen and Pravin regularly travel to visit the 24 monasteries and schools to offer medical services. Two small orphanages are also among these destinations.
Through regular on-site trainings for monks and nuns, KHCP sees to it that medical knowledge increases. Through the regular visits by our physicians, the prevention aspect is strengthened and also the local population around the monasteries benefits.
Our dental team from Europe has done a great job. For one month, a team of 10 persons headed by Dr. dent. Daniel Hess travelled from Delhi to Takdah and Kalimpong and then on a 24-hour jeep tour to Bodhgaya in order to immediately continue with their work at the medical camp at Kagyu Monlam! There, the Monlam team of 42 helpers treated more than 2000 persons.
In the past years, Karmapa and Shamarpa have repeatedly pointed out how important it is to get involved in social work. The heart of the medical East-West activity has been and will be the Monlam medical camp in Bodhgaya! Whoever would like to take part in it is welcome to contact us at
The idea of Rumtek Hospital stays alive through mobile activities on site until all necessary conditions come together.
We still have an online office that helps to coordinate various activities. Of course, you can also apply there, if you would like to support Betzy. She can be contacted in three languages (German, English and Spanish) at
Ulrike is still responsible for the funds. She also issues contribution receipts (only required for donations from Germany of 200 EUR per year or more)
We would like to warmly thank all donors, who make it possible that so many people can be helped over the year. Current information about the donation status can be found in the chart on our homepage.
Peter has revised our webpage www.karmapa-healthcare.org and we hope that you will have fun browsing it! In NEWS you will find all important activities of the past year.
Smaller blogs can be found on www.facebook.com/karmapahealthcareproject.
As always, we would like to extend special thanks to all institutes in the East for all their active helpers during our activities there.
Warm thanks to all friends worldwide! COME TOGETHER
