Microscopic Tuberculosis Screening at Sharminub Institute and Karma Raja Maha Vihar in Kathmandu, Nepal

Considering monasteries as one of the high risk zone for TB we have successfully completed screening program at Karma Raja Maha Vihar (HH.17.Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje), and Sharminub Institute (Shamar Rinpoche), Nagarjun Municipality-1.
Around 118 sputum sample are collected and transfer to Ichangu Narayan Health Post and result will be follow up.

This microscopic screening program is collaborated with Nagarjun Municipality, Ichangu Narayan Health Post and Nagarjun Manipa Mahila Samiti and Karmapa’s Healthcare Project, Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University Hospital.

Childhood TB:
Tuberculosis (TB) is major public health problem in Nepal. TB is one of the deadliest infectious disease, and it is the top 10 causes of deaths in low-income countries in 2016. Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population stands united with global TB community to end the TB epidemic in the country. National Tuberculosis Center, with a vision of “END TB” by 2035 evidence based TB control program and activities like Nepal TB Prevalence Survey (NTPS) program has been implemented. And to make “Kathmandu City as a Zero TB City” female community health volunteers (FCHV) play an important role in gathering information about household and social contacts of an infected person especially childhood TB It is the right time to push for TB eradication.
As childhood TB has historically been neglected by the global TB community and the health community in general. In Global TB report 2018, the WHO estimates that of the estimated 10 million incident cases of TB in 2017, approximately 1 million (10 percent) occurred among children “To decrease the global TB burden this year World TB Day theme is “IT’S TIME” - IT’S TIME TO ENSURE NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND. IT’S TIME FOR THE WORLD TO TAKE ACTION TO END TB”. ”
