Dental-Camp at Tharpa Choeling Nunnery of Shangpa Rinpoche in Muktinath/Lower Mustang/Nepal
On Oct.26, 2018, our KHCP-DHKUH-medical team visited the nunnery and we quickly assessed them all and came to conclusion a diagnosis of scabies and outbreak in the monastery.
We treated all the infected nuns with oral and/or topical medicines as per the severity of the rashes and entire teams are also treated as it is necessary.
We conducted education program to the nuns how to maintain the personal hygiene and the surrounding especially during these particular situation.

Oral diseases have significant impact on the health and well-being of the Karma Kagyu Monks and Nuns. As the goal of KHCP regarding the oral health policy is to prevent and control of the determinants of oral disease and promote oral health amongst the monks and nuns of the Karma Kagyu Monasteries. Most of the oral diseases are preventable and better oral health can be facilitated through several of health promotion and intervention using appropriate technology and manpower.
We did regular oral health screening and this time we also include questionnaire survey regarding Oral health Knowledge, attitude, behavior and practice with clinical intraoral examination. Dental caries status, gingival index, calculus status and Dental Aesthetic index were also recorded.
The entire clinical programs were continued with Oral health education and prevention of oral disease.
Those patients who are not possible for the treatment at the place are referred to Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University Hospital for further evaluation and proper treatment.
